Bringing Home the Medals — SICF 2026 International Wushu Championship

The 8th Singapore International Cultural Festival International Wushu Championship concluded in August 2026, co-hosted by the Singapore International Wushu Cultural

Centre and held at the Singapore Sports School.

Young athletes from over 50 countries and regions gathered in Singapore, with more than 30 delegations and over 800 entries. Events followed international wushu competition rules, covering Changquan, Nanquan and Taijiquan, weapons events including broadsword, straightsword, staff and spear, plus duilian and group routines — across children's, youth, junior, adult and senior divisions.

A panel of over 30 senior judges from China, Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia officiated, including three international-level judges. Chief Judge Professor Lin Xiaomei also led a wushu masterclass, breaking down technical standards and overall presentation from a judge's perspective.

The opening ceremony and awards dinner took place on 2 August at the Asian Civilisations Museum, attended by diplomats from more than ten countries alongside the visiting delegations. Cultural performances, heritage walks and school visits ran alongside the competition.

What moved us most was never the rankings — a young competitor steadying herself after a slip and finishing the routine; children from different delegations correcting each other's stances backstage; winners and losers saluting one another after the mat cleared. Character before technique. That is what wushu teaches.

The 9th Singapore International Cultural Festival opens in January 2027.
